A rare type. Tiny marks, otherwise, about extremely fine.

From an American collection of World medals.

Little is known about this rare George Washington medal, but the MORGAN signature on the truncation of the bust indicates that the obverse die was created before 1925, the year George T. Morgan - who was still working at the U.S. Mint in Philadelphia at the time - passed away. The distinctive sandblasted finish closely resembles the style applied at the Philadelphia Mint during the 1920s and 1930s.

The reverse features the design of the Mint’s Indian Peace medals, originally issued under various presidents throughout the 1800s, but still being produced for collectors during that era. We suspect that this medal was struck at the U.S. Mint in the 1920s or 1930s, possibly in connection with the end of World War I or the Bicentennial of Washington’s birth in 1932. However, given the rarity of surviving specimens, it appears that production was short-lived.
